Virtual Router is a software-based router that allows you to share your internet connection wirelessly. Using Virtual Router, you can turn your computer into a WiFi hotspot so you can share your connection (WiFi, broadband, 3G, dial-up, etc.) with people around you or woth your mobile devices. The only requirement to use this app is a PC or laptop running Windows 7, 8, or Windows 2008 R2.
One of the most salient features of Virtual Router is its simplicity when it comes to set it up, even if it's your first time using a product of this type. Once the install is complete, you will be asked to choose a name for your network, that is a SSID, enter a password to protect it, and select from the list the connection that you want to share. The application uses WPA2 Encryption to protect your network, which offers enhanced security compared to WEP or WPA.
Once the connection is established, the application lists all the devices connected to your network, showing their IP and MAC addresses. In difference to Connectify, Virtual Router is quite basic; for example, it is not possible to choose the encryption method or enable/disable certain devices or peers via the context menu.
In short, Virtual Router is a program that offers a simple and quick solution to setup a wireless network in order to share your internet connection to your WiFi devices and other users, saving you the time and effort it may take to obtain a proper network configuration. Besides, it has the advantage of being completely free and without ads.
